SUSSEX, Wis. (AP) - Printing giant Quad/Graphics is acquiring one of its biggest competitors.
The Milwaukee area company says it will buy Brown Printing Co., of Waseca, Minn., for $100 million. Quad/Graphics is recognized as the largest printer of magazines and catalogs in North America and produces Time, Rolling Stone and the L.L. Bean catalog, along with many others. The Sussex-based company has made eight acquisitions since 2010 as the printing industry consolidates with the growth of digital devices.
The Journal Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1e8zkrs ) says Quad/Graphics employs nearly 7,000 in Wisconsin and also operates across North and South America, with inroads in Europe and India.
Brown Printing has facilities in Illinois and Pennsylvania and employs about 1,850. It prints Esquire, Family Circle and other magazines, as well as catalogs for Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue.
